Feeling Iowish for Trombone Quartet with optional Soloist and/or Percussion
$ 19.80
Description commissioned by Nathan Dishman, with support from Iowa State University dedicated to the Iowa High School Music Association an original composition in three movements playable by trombone quartet with or without an additional flute, Eb alto saxophone, Bb tenor saxophone, Bb trumpet, or French horn soloist. plus optional light percussion on any or all movements I. The Move II. Gratitude III. Home Hear the Trombone Quartet MIDI demo here: https://potenzamusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/PZA80241.mp3 Flexible Instrumentation Though commissioned only for a trombone quartet with optional trombone soloist, I added additional optional soloist parts plus an optional percussion part, which includes the highly portable instruments of claves, suspended cymbal (mallets), and snare drum (sticks) so that staging is easily accomplished. The snare could be on a stand or could be as small as the “laptop” one-inch practice snares widely sold. The part is easy enough so as to be playable possibly even by non-drummers, and no toms or hi-hat are needed. These movements can be performed entirely or independently. The soloist’s notes (whether in the quartet or added soloist) are playable without a trigger-horn. When the soloist is present, certain portions of the music are no longer performed by the core quartet; other times the solo part creates a quintet voicing. MIDI demonstration recordings of “Feeling Iowish” in quartet, quartet plus soloist, and optional percussion combinations, plus a “minus-one” track for the optional soloist, and a percussionist-only track for horn rehearsal are included . (For tracks including silences, a one-bar click count-off before each movement, plus an ensuing click-track, is added.) The piece runs 7 minutes. The six available demo tracks include: • Trombone Quartet • Trombone Quartet with Soloist • Trombone Quartet with Percussion • Trombone Quartet with Soloist and Percussion • Percussion only (with count-off click) • Trombone Quartet minus Soloist
